ES-HE90 · A tribute to the HE90
The ES-HE90 is an open-back electrostatic headphone from ES Lab, the result of several years of development and everything the workshop has learned. It is not a replica: it recreates the sound of a 30-year-old flagship electrostatic driver with modern manufacturing, for higher precision and greater stability.

Thirty years after the original, ES Lab set out to bring its sound back. Every part was reconsidered, from glass electrodes cut with micron-level accuracy to housings finished by hand.
The result keeps the character of the classic while gaining the consistency that modern processes allow.
Each driver is assembled in a cleanroom. After repeated cleaning, a technician checks every hole on all four electrodes for particles, so each driver meets the same exacting standard.
From the glass electrodes to the bubinga housings, every detail is there to let the music move the air, and to carry the sound of thirty years ago into the present.
The Electrodes
The electrodes are made from high-strength glass, which keeps its shape with virtually no warping, even during processing. Laser cutting and chemical etching form around 5,000 hexagonal holes in each one with micron-level accuracy, without micro-cracks.
A sputtered chromium layer topped with pure gold gives high conductivity and resists oxidation, keeping the electrodes stable for the long term.
Diaphragm and tuning
1-MICRON ELLIPTICAL DIAPHRAGM
The diaphragm is an ultra-thin engineering plastic just 1 micron thick, for finer detail and a more natural soundstage. Its elliptical shape reduces standing waves more effectively than a traditional round diaphragm.
The ear pads use selected imported polyurethane foam, balanced for density, firmness and breathability, and hand-assembled in ES Lab's own workshop. Change the pad combination to choose a tuning close to the original classic sound, or one tuned for modern recordings.
Build
The housings are African bubinga, chosen after testing many woods for the most complementary resonance. Each one is sanded, finished, coated and polished in several stages, so the headphone becomes part of the music and a piece of craftsmanship in its own right.
At 370 g without the cable, the ES-HE90 stays comfortable through long sessions. The ear pads, headband and cable are fully modular and can be swapped by hand in moments.
Made in Hong Kong
Gold-coated glass electrodes, a 1-micron diaphragm and hand-finished bubinga, assembled and inspected by hand. The ES-HE90 arrives in a wooden case that protects it in storage and on the move.
