Good for the price

I thought long and hard about which standalone DAC to purchase. I kept circling back to the SU-9 Ultra which is based around an AKM DAC chip. When I hooked it up to my modest system which consists of a Marantz PM700N amp, a WIIM Pro Plus streamer and Kef Q350 speakers, there was an improvement across the sonic spectrum. Base was fuller and more controlled, mids and highs were clear with good detail. I listen to music throughout the working day so around 8 hours daily and listening fatigue has not been an issue for me. The gripes I have with the Ultra are not due to its sound. It annoys me that there's no auto power off. I'd also have liked a few options for the display such as making the bit rate the main item rather than the volume. The sound is the most important thing though and the SU-9 Ultra performs well at its price point. Especially the price Elise Audio offer it at which is about £50 cheaper than anywhere else I could find it new.
