Duality has earned a reputation for delivering jaw-dropping, laughter-inducing bass that feels astonishingly visceral for an IEM. But sheer quantity means little without quality. While modern IEM drivers can easily produce substantial bass, achieving both quantity and superior quality is a greater challenge. Duality excels where others fall short, offering massive sub-bass with unmatched impact, speed, and tactility, creating an experience like no other.
Switch It Up
Duality has now evolved to include a second balanced profile, in addition to its original best-in-class bass specialty, in an amusingly paradoxical asymmetry. Featuring a more natural and balanced tuning, Duality's second setting achieves a level of performance far surpassing any single DD, while retaining the natural timbre DDs are known for. Simultaneously sensational and sensible, rest assured that you'll always have both fun and finesse at your fingertips.
Design
Designed to be understated yet distinctive, Duality features a matte sandblasted black shell with two intersecting circles in two different shades of grey, brushed in different directions and positioned next to the rectangular silhouette of the switch. Duality doesn't just represent its name sonically, but also visually with a polarity of colours, shapes, textures and tones.
Impedance Adapters
Impedance adapters are an optional add-on for Duality which increases sub-bass further at the cost of some sensitivity. These impedance adapters are designed specifically for Duality and interact with the Duality's intentionally shaped impedance curve in a way that only adds sub-bass, while keeping the rest of the frequency response unchanged. The adapters also change the character of the bass from a slightly more rounded, suited for general listening, to more intense and focused, which gives you full bass intensity but might be a bit overwhelming for some. This change is facilitated by the shifting of the peak of the bass shelf further into the sub 20Hz territory, increasing perceived bass impact and texture.
Do note that with the adapter attached, the driving requirements increase by a considerable amount. Please reach out to us if you are unsure if your set-up has sufficient power.
Stock Cable
The stock cable of Duality is Synthesis, our first full hybrid copper and silver cable. Synthesis was developed specifically to enhance bass impact and texture while retaining good resolution, clean lower mids and an open and layered stage. When upgrading to the Blue Hour cable, you can expect improvements in stage size, layering and resolution, alongside a more natural and fluid midrange presentation. However, for those looking for the ultimate sub-bass slam and tactility, we recommend sticking with Synthesis as it specialises in these areas.
SEISMOS
SEISMOS is an integration of electrical, acoustic and physical solutions in a system designed to maximise the physicality of bass in an IEM form factor. With the implementation of the bass driver as true subwoofer in phase coherence with the mid-high driver, we are able to utilise the h-network crossover alongside several customised acoustic systems including LoFlex to split the bass load between both dynamic drivers precisely. This has enabled us to achieve a combination of speed, extension and tactility balanced and taken to the next level, while hitting head-rattling levels of sub-bass magnitude. Described by early testers as a subwoofer for your head, Duality delivers real BASS that you not just hear, but feel.
h-network
h-network is a multi-faceted crossover solution that allows us to simultaneously achieve extreme technical performance, matching multi-driver hybrids, alongside a massive bass response.
On the low end, this results in the ability to push the bass of dynamic drivers to new limits. Typically bass quantity and speed are at odds with each other, and increasing one means sacrificing the other. h-network uses extreme crossover components implemented in an unconventional manner pushing beyond the boundaries of previous IEM designs. h-network enables us to create tunings with extreme magnitudes of BASS while retaining the quality and tactility we are unwilling to compromise on.
h-network also allows us to free the mid-high driver from having to play the movement intensive bass frequencies, which exponentially improves performance specifically with DDs due to the high moving mass of DDs relative to other driver types.
Timbr+
Nightjar Acoustics' proprietary method of dynamic driver design that allows us to achieve a leap in performance without the usual metallic, lean or bright tunings usually required to achieve a high level of technical capability with both DDs.
Achieved through a meticulously designed diaphragm, drive assembly, and internal chamber that has been carefully calibrated to integrate seamlessly with the subwoofer. This bespoke solution optimises airflow while balancing the moving mass and magnetic flux of the driver to achieve a highly technical yet natural presentation in Duality, taking midrange transient response and treble extension to levels surpassing other DD based solutions before it.
LoFlex
Building on the development of LoFlex for Singularity, we adapted our proprietary system of pressure relief to utilise the added complexity of the dual-driver chamber by carefully optimising the chamber volume and flow rate through the venting system to improve isolation and reduce driver flex.
A rare feature with dynamic drivers is simultaneously having a large quantity of sub-bass with minimal driver flex. Usually, the additional front venting required to reduce driver flex also reduces the effective seal of an IEM, reducing bass magnitude. This is why many bass heavy IEMs suffer from various degrees of driver flex, something we noticed community members mentioning as an area of annoyance. Improving on the original LoFlex, we are proud to have achieved a ~25db bass shelf with next to no driver flex on Duality.
Isolation is another common weakness of full dynamic driver setups and something that we worked diligently to address. Building on learnings from Singularity, isolation has been further improved with Duality, allowing users to listen on the go without having to crank up the volume to compensate for ambient noise.
